Carbon is a natural nonmetalic element which forms the basis of all living organism. Carbon plays a very important role in the stability of life and our planet through the Carbon Cycle. Carbon comes in all forms like diamond (the hardest material found earth) or graphite which is black and non transparent.

Carbon has 6 electrons, 6 neutrons and 6 protons. Carbon is an element w/ the symbol C & the atomic number 6. Carbon forms with other elements to form molecules. Carbon based molecules are the building blocks of human, plants, animals and our earth (soil). There is definetly no shortage when it comes to Carbon.

In the human body carbon is the second most abundant element by mass after oxygen.  Carbon constitutes roughly 18 percent of body mass, and millions of carbon atoms form the thousands of molecules in virtually every cell. Carbon is the basic building block required to form proteins, carbohydrates and fats, and it plays a crucial role in regulating the physiology of the body. Gaseous and liquid compounds that contain carbon also can affect the body.
