Lab 13-How biotechnology will impact my life in the future-By: Alanna DeGroot

I know that biotechnology will impact my life in the future in numerous ways. I want to narrow it down to how it will affect me in my career. I am currently a nursing student with goals to eventually run a hospital. Biotechnology will help by advancing medical treatment for patients and allowing researchers to come up with better and more effective medicines. Let's first start with, what the definition of medical biotechnology is. According to WGU medical biotechnology, "uses living cells and cell materials to research, and then produce pharmaceutical and diagnosing products." Which means that researchers are working diligently to improve the health care we are able to provide to ourselves and our patients. Medical biotechnology has been and will continue to come out with better ways to treat diseases and disorders that doctors and nurses have been fighting for years. One biotechnological advancement includes genetic testing which, while it helps people learn their ancestry, also allows doctors to test for genetic disorders and cancer. Vaccines and all current medications are the result of biotechnological research and development.

In my personal life, I know that biotechnology hopefully improve my personal health. I suffer from asthma, frequent acute upper respiratory infections, anxiety, and major depression. The development of inhalers and nebulizers has already helped me my entire life. And it is my hope that they are able to come up with a treatment that would prevent my asthma instead of just getting rid of the attacks when they happen.
