A postpartum hemorrhage is when there is more bleeding than normal after one undergoes childbirth. This occurs usually after the placenta has been delivered but this can also occur after the initial birth. The cause of this hemorrhage can be generally attributed to the uterus not contracting enough pressure on the blood vessels located at the placenta causing the blood to flow freely in that area. Postpartum hemorrhages can also be caused by tears in the cervix of tissues of the vagina and can be also due to some underlying disorders such as a disease that may affect the clotting of blood vessels. Treatments for this situation may include stimulation of the cervix for increased contortions, removing pieces of the placenta, examination of the uterus that may lead to the cutting off of blood vessels, and asa last resort a hysterectomy(removal of uterus) may be involved. The treatments are to in the end stop the hemorrhage.
