The epididymis carries sperm from the testes to a tube behind the bladder known as the "vas deferens". An oddly disturbing fact about the epididymis is that it is coiled up behind the testicle and can be up to 20 feet long. The epididymitis condition is from inflammation of the epididymis, and affects only one of the testicles. It is most often caused by an STI, (gonorreha, chlamydia) but, it can be caused by other infections and/bacteria. The disorder can be either acute or chronic, and typically affects males from the age of 18-35. The symptoms can last several months and are best treated with anti biotic and analgesic medications. Some of the telltale symptoms to look for are; redness and swelling of the scrotum, fever, a more frequent urge to pee, and bloody urine. It is recommended to see a doctor if any of these symptoms are present.
