Tendinitis is an issue in which a tendon becomes inflamed which causes a lot of pain. A tendon is what attaches bone to muscle. Tendinitis can happen from sudden trauma or more likely it occurs because of repeated movement in one area. Such as repeated movement while doing a job or a hobby like playing tennis, gardening, shoveling, painting, or even texting! Poor posture or form can also increase a person's risk for developing tendinitis. It can also occur almost any part of the body and is more common in adults. The reason for this being tendons are less elastic as we all age, which makes them easier to become injured.

To help heal tendinitis a doctor will tell you to discontinue activities that would aggravate it. Resting the area, icing, and taking OTC meds would likely also be encouraged. For a more persistent or painful injury, more serious forms of treatment would likely be utilized. Such as physical therapy, corticosteroid injections, or surgery. Preventive measures are hands down the best route to take; making sure you're taking car of yourself in the here and now to best prevent tendinitis from occurring.

Tendinitis can occur in any body, but the older you are, the more susceptible you become. As bodies age and lose more flexibility it can be easier to damage your tendons. People who are diabetic or who have arthritis are also at a higher risk. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, tendonitis causes more than 70,000 people to miss work every year.
