I chose the to research the Peripheral artery disease. You can get this disease when your peripheral arteries start to narrow due to the build up of plaque inside of them. These arteries supply blood flow to you legs, stomach, arms, and even your head. With poor circulation to these areas you can experience great pain and discomfort until the blood flow can be restored. You can also experience loss of hair on your legs, your skin may feel cool, thinning of your skin, ulcers, pain in your buttocks, and pain when walking.

There are many ways you can treat peripheral artery disease. The most important would be your self care, by cutting certain things out of your routine and paying more attention to how you are treating your body you can begin to feel extremely better. Doctors may prescribe blood thinners to their patients to try and improve their blood flow. Some other medications given would be Statin which helps to stop the liver from producing harmful cholesterol and Vasodilator which widens the blood vessels inside the body. There is also a surgery you may have to undergo in your condition is bad enough called a angioplasty. The doctors go into your arteries and unblock them by placing a balloon like object inside of them or possibly a stent to hold the artery more open.

This is a very common disease. It is reported that there are more then three million cases per year in the united states. Once diagnosed you can have this disease anywhere from just a year to your entire lifetime. The death rates for patients who have this disease is around 33.2% within 5 years of dealing with it. Unfortunately once diagnosed with PAD it is not expected that one lives past 2 years although, if they are expected to live longer then that it is recommended they undergo a Bypass surgery to extend their time a little more.
