Pancreas
The pancreas is located on the left side of the abdomen. It is six inches long and narrow. It extends superiorly and laterally across the abdomen from the curve of the duodenum to the spleen. This organ plays an essential role in turning the food we eat into fuel our bodies need to survive. There are two main functions that the pancreas has. One that regulates blood sugars and the other that aids in digestion. The function that aids in digestion is an exocrine function and the other that regulates blood sugars is an endocrine function. The pancreas has a head, neck, body and tail. There are numerous major blood vessels surrounding the pancreas, including; the portal vein, mesenteric artery, the celiac axis and the mesenteric vein. They all work together to supply blood to the pancreas and other organs as well.
