Myofibril-Matthew Iverson

Page history last edited by Matthew Iverson 4 years, 2 months ago

The Myofibril is a muslce cell, it is also shaped like a rod.

The myofibril is made of long protiens, one of which is alike in name, Myosin. The other protien of importance is Actin.

There are other proteins which hold the many stripes together to form the muscle cell. All these together are known as myofilaments

The main purpose of the myofibril cell is to help your muscles when contracting.

This is done by the two filaments mentioned earlier along with two others, Titan and Nebulin.

There are two types of myofilaments which slide against each other when your muscles stretch.

These are known as Thick and Thin filaments.

An easier way to remember the Myofibril is to think of it as muscle fibril.

Another interesting thing about them, they may be up to several inches in length.
