Sulfur

by Kya Brings Plenty

Sulfur is symbolized with the letter S on the periodic table. Its atomic number is 16 with an atomic mass of 32.065. Because the atomic number is 16, there are 16 protons and 16 electrons in the atom. If we subtract the atomic number (16) from the atomic mass (32) we get the number of neutrons in the atom, equalling 16.

Sulfur is a non-metal, chemical element in the oxygen group and is one of the most reactive elements on the periodic table. Pure sulfur is a pale yellow solid that is odorless and tasteless. Sulfur is a poor electricity conductor and is insoluble in water. It can react with all types of metals except for gold and platinum and forms compounds with other non-metal elements

Sulfur is widely used in industry as sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid is used in manufacturing fertilizers and is also used for the production of pigments, detergents, fibers, petroleum, sheet metal, explosives, and storage batteries. Sulfur can also be used in making paper, insecticides, fungicides and many other things.
