What is Fluorine?
Fluorine is a gas with a pale yellow-green color. It's part of the 17th group being number 9 in the periodic table. The symbol for Fluorine is "F", the electron configuration is, He 2s2 2p5. Fluorine atomic number is 9, the mass is 18.998403, 10 neutrons with melting point -219.6 °C and boiling point -188 °C. Henry Moissan discovered Fluorine in 1886.
What is Fluorine chemical behavior?
Fluorine is a yellowish gas can be can be dangerous in room temperature, if you mix it with other elements it can cause harm such as being poisonous and reactive. Other elements that it compound to is Krypton, Xenon, and Radon. It's reactive with elements such as metals, water, and it will burn with flame in a gas. Fluorine is found on earth in places such as rocks, coal and clay. It's released in the air and get's into soil having 330 ppm of fluorine in the range of 150-400 ppm. It eventually get's into the water.
How does Fluorine benefit or affect?
We have Fluorine in our water, air, plants and animals, so we are exposed to it through our food, and there are huge amounts of fluorine found in tea or shellfish, but overall it will be found in any food with small amounts of fluoride. When we go to the dentist we get a fluoride treatment which is suppose to help our teeth from getting tooth decay. It's also found in toothpaste, and it can be harmful if a large amount is swallowed. It will be harmful to our kidney's, bones, nerve and muscles if we absorbed it too often. Fluorine has both pros and cons just like any elements. It also affects our plant's because when it gets into our air with gravity it goes down to the soil.
